What we do: past and present

Initially the Trust activities focused on providing:

  • creches and play sessions for children,
  • a place for adults to meet and relax and get support and advice,
  • visiting B&B and other temporary accommodation,
  • providing furniture,
  • assisting with educational problems and campaigning for better provisions for homeless families.

Today our concerns remain the same but the environment in which we work has changed.  From August 2008 our principle activity has been a furniture service.

We work with a number of different organisations in and around Bristol who offer temporary accommodation, support and advice to people in a homeless situation or those threatened by homelessness.  Once people have secured accommodation the next step is furnishing the property.  This is where SPACE steps in.

SPACE tries to help people who do not have the means, to settle into an empty property, by providing a lot of basic items of furniture. We collect used tables and chairs, living room suites, book cases, chest of draws, beds, crockery, linen and other furniture in good condition which complies with fire safety standards.

People referred to us, who meet our criteria, are invited to choose furniture from our warehouse.  Subsequently a delivery date and time will be arranged for the items chosen.
