About us
Founded in 1989, SPACE is an organisation concerned about the disadvantages faced by homeless families in Bristol. The work involves families from many cultures aiming to empower them by offering support and friendship. The charity also contributes to the wider campaign tackling the injustice of homelessness. The two key programmes that SPACE runs to help families are furnishing of new homes and organising play sessions for children in hostels.
Furniture and Household Items
SPACE provides free furniture and household items to families who are moving from temporary accommodation into new homes. Without furniture, a family cannot live in a new home and the work that SPACE does is crucial for a family once they have secured accommodation. SPACE helps families with children to regain some normalcy, build a home and get their lives together as quickly as possible. To donate furniture

Children’s Play Sessions
Weekly pre-school play sessions and children’s after school clubs in hostels are organised throughout Bristol. SPACE also arranges outings during the school holidays. They provide families with good quality children’s clothes, books, games and toys. This benefits the families giving the children something to look forward to and giving the parents a break. It is an opportunity for parents to find jobs, housing or help while their children are looked after. To donate children’s equipment

Results that Matter
In the last twelve months the furniture service has continued to increase the services we are able to offer. Thanks to the generosity and support of our donors in Bristol and the surrounding areas, we have done more furniture collections and been able to help more families to move from hostels and bed and breakfasts into their own homes than ever before. Our van has collected an amazing 1793 items of furniture from 627 households, enabling 191 families to come to our warehouse and choose furniture.
